After a brief period as a model in the fashion industry before moving into acting when she appeared as guest actors on television shows like Boy Meets World in the 1990s, and High Incident. She had her first film performance in 1997's drama Nowhere. Following her appearance in American Beauty (for which she won a BAFTA Award) and American Pie which brought her greater attention, she began her move into more prominent parts.
